| Week Starting 23 January 2012 | | We are between crops of Red Kumara and hope to have some in a couple of weeks. Cauliflower has gone up in price. Earlier crops came on due to the good growing weather and now we are in a hole before the next crop is ready to harvest. Lettuce has increased in price, with the shortage in Auckland dragging local produce up country and creating demand and lifting the price.
Black and Green Grapes are now available.
 |
| Week Starting 16 January 2012 | | Happy Anniversary Southland (16th)
Apricots, Peaches, Nectarines and Plums are available as the summer fruit gets into full swing. Early season apples are not far away and these will closely be followed by pears.
The changed weather patterns will make this another year of unpredictability. Produce may not be ready when we expect and changes to early growing conditions are likely to engender unexpected consequenses for the crop, much as we have seen in the past year.
Red Kumara has come to a sudden end with the new season produce delayed by the weather that we have been having. It will be unavailable for about 2 weeks.
 |
| Week Starting 09 January 2012 | | We are using Northland new season pumpkin which seems to be the least immature of what is currently available. We have new season Parsnip available, but we are still waiting on New season Swede to get some size before we have it available.
